Fiona Danaher was born c. 1880 in Boston to an intensely religious Irish immigrant family. Early on, Fiona felt a true calling… to the priesthood. Then as now, her gender was a problem. So, at age 20 Fiona boarded a ship for Ireland… and ‘Finn’ disembarked. Using her male disguise to enroll at Trinity, Danaher was ordained as a priest at age 25. ‘Father’ Danaher re-crossed the Atlantic to take up a position in New York City and presided over a small parish there until 1915. Struck down by a sudden illness, her true gender was revealed. Fiona was of course defrocked as the local Archbishop struggled to contain and cover up the scandal. In 1916 Fiona was attacked, strangled, and left for dead by gang of enraged female ex-parishioners… mostly younger women whose (now invalid) marriages she had performed. She was Embraced by Margaret ‘Devil’s Nun’ Ryan, a Lancea Sanctum Elder, who wished to preserve some vestige of Fiona’s spirituality in this world.
Or the next 50+ years Fiona served the Sanctified faithfully… but inwardly chafed at a hierarchy that turned out to be nearly as sexist as the mortal Church that had rejected her. Her reading of various ancient texts in her Sire’s library also led her to the so-called ‘Livian Heresy’ that held that Longinus’ mother, the harlot Livia, was a legitimate object of veneration as God’s chosen vessel for delivering the Centurion to this world. She learned to be quiet about her beliefs, but lingering suspicions (plus her gender) seemed to poison her advancement in the LS.
Having met Svoboda briefly in 1935, Fiona was both surprised and pleased by the Russian’s invitation to Anchorage in 1968. Her congregation is small, and politically uncommitted: none have forsaken their other covenants for the LS. Some appear to be true believers, however: Svoboda, Dino, and Nathan all attend Midnight Mass regularly and most others appearing occasionally (often for purely social reasons.) Her Theban Sorcery is often useful to other Kindred of the Domain… as is Fitka’s Cruac. The two women have a rivalry that is distinctly hostile, although the two have never come to open fighting.
Fiona maintains a mortal persona as a non-denominational minister, and has many contacts amongst Anchorage’s Christian and Jewish clergy and influential church-goers. She owns a large house in Eagle River. Nearby is the Combined Hiland Mountain Correctional Center, a women’s prison, where Fiona often does chaplaincy work… and feeds. Her house is shared by a former inmate: Shelly Turner, widely known to have killed three young men with a hatchet… before becoming a ghoul. Fiona holds Midnight Mass every Saturday/Sunday in an ‘abandoned’ church nearby.
