'The Colonel', Seneschal Of Anchorage
Nathan McKinney was born c.1895 in Omaha, Nebraska. He joined the U.S. Army in 1915 to fight in The Great War. He was trained as a new kind of soldier: a fighter pilot. By war’s end he had 24 confirmed kills over France and Germany. Mustering out, he found readjusting to civilian life difficult.. He re-joined the Army in 1920, entered OCS in ’22, and was commissioned Lt. JG in ’23. Promotion was slow in the peacetime military, and by 1941 Nathan had only risen to Captain.
With the outbreak of WWII, Nathan was assigned to the Pacific Theatre to fight the Japs. By VJ Day he had scored 10 more kills, and risen to the rank of Colonel. Stationed in Anchorage’s Elmendorf AFB after the war, Nathan took retirement in ’48; depression and self-destructive behavior (excessive drinking, bar-fights, etc) followed. Svoboda, seeking someone to help her understand and manage the burgeoning military presence in the area, found in him many admirable qualities despite his troubled mind. She offered him both the Embrace and a new purpose: help her realize the dream of a Carthian Utopia in the North.
Nathan has a great many contacts amongst the city’s military and ex-military personnel, and is often seen entering or leaving Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, which he claims as his territory and feeding grounds (along with the VA Hospital). Nathan also maintains ties with various paramilitary ‘militia’ groups.
Nathan remains an avid pilot, and owns several small planes. He knows a lot of Alaska’s more active ‘bush pilots’, and can sometimes be persuaded to play that role himself for other Kindred in need of transport.
Nathan maintains a mortal persona as the owner of an aircraft repair-hangar at Merrill Field, where he employs several mechanics and office staffers.
