Valtr Lanik was born c. 1845 to an upper-middle-class family in Praha, Czechoslovakia. Showing an aptitude for art and music and a disinclination for hard work, Valtr was duly enrolled in the city’s ancient University in the mid 1860’s and began living “the bohemian life.” Around 1870 he was exploring some ‘lost’ tunnels beneath the school (looking for new and outré’ places to drink absinthe and get laid) when he discovered the tomb of a slumbering vampire: the Daeva Elder called Ecaterina The Wise. Having slept for over 200 years, she Embraced the handsome young man to be her companion and guide in the new era. Exploring the night, Ecaterina and Valtr ended by joining the Carthian Movement (Ecaterina having been very progressive back in the Dark Ages)., bringing welcome power to the budding Covenant. By 1900 Ecaterina was the ‘Prince’ of Praha, and Valtr and she began to drift apart. He and Svoboda met in the mid 1920s as her travels took her through Praha. During WWII Valtr left his Nazi-occupied homeland for Spain, settling in Barcelona. There he met Pilar Mirada (Ventrue, Invictus) and the two began a passionate love-affair despite their differing covenant affiliations. Neither much liked post-war Spain however, so when Svoboda invited Valtr to Anchorage both came to the New World.. On the way they hatched a plan: as Valtr would settle in the far North so would Pilar seek a home in the far South. When each was secure they would join together and migrate back and forth enjoying perpetual autumn and winter together.
In the present nights Valtr maintains a mortal persona as a pianist, playing in the bars of several of Anchorage’s must luxurious hotels and preying on the traveling businesswomen and tourists. He also has insinuated himself into ‘high society’, playing at many swanky soirees and glittering gatherings of the 1%. It is rumored he has slept with at last half of the trophy wives in the city, and their daughters as well. As a result he has many contacts and some influence in that rarefied world.
